Peter stretched as high as he could.

Peter尽可能的伸到他能够到的高度

There! His tall building was finished.

快看!他的高楼就快完成了

Crash!Down it came.

哗!它倒了

"Shhhh!'called his mother.

“嘘!”他的妈妈喊到,

"You'll have to play more quietly

“你要玩的安静点

Remember, we have a new baby in the house."

记住我们屋子里还有一个小宝宝。”

Peter looked into his sister Susie's room.

Peter去看了他妹妹Susie的房间

His mother was fussing around the cradle.

他妈妈正在摇篮旁忙碌。

"That's my cradle,"he thought,

那是我的摇篮

"and they painted it pink!"

他们把它变成了粉红色!

"Hi, Peter,"said his father.

“嗨!Peter,”他爸爸说

"Would you like to help paint sister's high chair?"

你愿意帮忙给妹妹的高椅喷色吗?

"It's my high chair,"whispered Peter.

“那是我的椅子”Peter小声囔囔到。

He saw his crib and muttered,

他看到自己的婴儿床咕哝道,

"My crib. It's painted pink too."

“我的婴儿床也变成了粉红色!”

Not far away stood his old chair.

他的旧椅子在不远处,

"They didn't paint that yet!" Peter shouted.

“它还没变成粉红色!”Peter叫道。

He picked it up and ran to his room.

他悄悄拿起了椅子跑到自己的房间。

"Let's run away,While,"he said.

“我们现在就逃跑”他说道。

Peter filled a shopping bag with cookies and dog biscuits.

Peter装了一袋子的曲奇和狗饼干。

"We'll take my blue chair,my toy crocodile,

and the picture of me when I was a baby."

“我们把我的蓝椅子,我的玩具鳄鱼和我婴儿时的照片带走。

They went outside and stood in front of his house.

他们走了出去,站在家门口。

"This is a good place,"said Peter.

“这里是个好地方”Peter说。

He arranged his things very nicely and decided to sit in his chair for a while.

他把他的东西整齐的布置好,然后决定坐在他的椅子上休息会儿。

But he couldn't fit in the chair.He was too big!

但是他已经坐不进这张椅子了。他太大了!

His mother came to the window and called,

他的妈妈来到窗前问道,

"Won't you come back to us, Peter dear? We have something very special for lunch."

“你不回来吗,亲爱的Peter?我们的午餐有一些特别的食物哦

Peter and Willie made believe they didn't hear.

Peter和Willie假装没有听到。

But Peter got an idea.

但Peter有了一个办法。

Soon his mother saw signs that Peter was home.

很快他的妈妈看到了Peter回家的信号

"That rascal is hiding behind the curtain,"she said happily.

“那个淘气鬼藏在窗帘后面呢”她高兴的说。

She moved the curtain away.But he wasn't there!

她已开了窗帘,但他不在那儿!

"Here I am,"shouted Peter.

“我在这儿”Peter叫道。

Peter sat in a grown-up chair.

Peter坐在了大椅子上

His father sat next to him.

他的爸爸坐在他旁边。

"Daddy,'said Peter,"let's paint the little chair pink for Susie."

“爸爸,”Peter说,“我们一起为Susie把小椅子漆成粉红色吧。

And they did.

最后他们一起为妹妹漆椅子啦。

【阅读理解】

这篇故事有三个部分。起因-经过-结果,结构非常清楚,可以引导孩子复述故事,培养他的阅读理解能力。

故事开始的时候,Peter感到很伤心因为他小时候的东西都被给了妹妹。然后,Peter就带着他的小家当和狗狗一起离家出走了。但最后,Peter突然意识到他已不再是个小宝宝,并且发现其实长大的感觉很好,可以和爸爸一起帮妹妹漆椅子。
